Some changes for 2013.

Deferrals made to Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) are limited to $2,500 (down from $3,000 or more in 2012) for an individual. Spouses may each contribute $2,500 for a family total of $5,000.

Payment limits to Health Savings Accounts (HSA) for employees with high deductible plans have increased slightly for 2013.  Individuals on high deductible health plans are limited to $3,250 in 2013; families are limited to $6,450. Individuals over turning 55 or older in 2013 may contribute an extra $1,000.

For the purposes of the rules, high deductible means at least $1,250 for an individual and $2,500 for family coverage.  Out of pocket expenses (deductibles, co-pays and other expenses not premiums) may not exceed $6,250 for an individual or $12,500 for a family.
